A solution of 7.6 grams (0.04 mole) of (1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthyl)urea, 2,0 grams of sodium hydroxide and 2.2 grams of para-formaldehyde in 150 ml. of methanol is stirred at reflux temperature for 10 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled and neutralized with dry ice. The solvent is evaporated at reduced pressure. The residue is treated with water, the mixture filtered, and the filter cake washed with water and dried to give 8.2 grams of product, melting point 124.5° C. to 127.5° C. Recrystallization from methyl isobutyl ketone gives the analytical sample, melting point 136° C. to 138.5° C.
