Procedure

To 75 g. polyphoshoric acid are added 3.1 g. pyridazine-4-carboxylic acid, 5.0 g. (23 mmole) 1-acetyl-5,6-diamino-3,3-dimethylindoline (Example 2b) and 22 g. phosphorus pentoxide and heated to 150°-160° C. for 7 hours. The reaction mixture is poured on to ice, rendered ammoniacal, extracted with dichloromethane and the extract evaporated to give 3.6 g. (51% of theory) of the title compound in the form of a dark solid; m.p. 225°-260° C.
