Procedure

A mixture of 4-allyloxy-2-ethyl-3-methylbenzofuran (1.0 g; 4.8mmoles) and orthodichlorobenzene (40 ml) was refluxed for 4 hours. The mixture was chromatographed to obtain 1.0 g of the title compound as an oil. The oil was recrystallized from hexane.
