Reaction Steps
A solution of 2-(p-methoxybenzoyl)-3-methyl-4-hydroxy-5-chloro-7-allylbenzofuran (110 mg; 0.31mmole) in ethanol (15 mL) was hydrogenated in a Parr apparatus at 20 psi in the presence of 5% palladium on charcoal. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated in vacuo to yield 110 mg of 2-(p-methoxybenzoyl)-3-methyl-4-hydroxy-5-chloro-7-propylbenzofuran.
