Reaction Steps
To a cold (00) stirred solution of the alcohol of Example K (2.44 g, 10 mmol) in pyridine (30 ml) is added p-toluenesulfonyl chloride (1.91 g, 10 mmol) in portions over 15 minutes. When addition is completed, the reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 hrs. The reaction mixture is diluted with ether and washed successively with water, 0.5N aqueous sodium bisulfate solution, 5% aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and water. The organic layer is dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and the filtrate is concentrated on the rotary evaporator to give the titled compound.
