The product from step (c) (2.4 g) was suspended in a mixture of water (100 ml) and ethanol (200 ml) and 10% w/w Pd/C (0.25 g) added. The mixture was stirred under 1 atoms. pressure of hydrogen for 17 hours when uptake was complete. The mixture was filtered through Hyflo and the filtrate evaporated in vacuo to give the desired product as a colourless solid (2.4 g).
