Procedure

4-(3,5-Dihydroxyphenyl)-4-methoxytetrahydropyran was reacted with one equivalent of iodoacetonitrile using the procedure described in Example 1 to give 4-(3-cyanomethoxy-5-hydroxyphenyl)-4methoxytetrahydropyran (27%) as an oil.
