Reaction Steps
To a solution of (3,5-diethoxy-pyridin-2-yl)-methanol (166 mg, 0.84 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (5 mL) is added 2.0 M solution of SOCl2 (1 mL) in CH2Cl2. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, diluted with toluene and concentrated to afford 2-chloromethyl-3,5-diethoxy-pyridine as HCl salt which is directly used for the next step.
