2-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-3-{1-[(cis-4-ethoxycarbonylcyclohexyl)carbamoyl]cyclopentyl}-propanoic acid t-butyl ester (8.11 g, 15 mmole) in 10% aqueous ethanol (320 ml) was hydrogenated at 30 p.s.i. (2 bar) for 4 hours over 10% palladium on carbon. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate evaporated under vacuum. The residue was azeotroped with dichloromethane (3×50 ml) and dried to give the crude title compound as a gum (6.86 g). Rf. 0.6 (silica; methanol, dichloromethane 5:95).
