The synthesis was carried out in the same manner as described in Example 3b, except that 50 g (0.21 mol) of 1-(2-tert-butyl-5-methylphenyloxy)-2-butanol were used instead of 50 g (0.23 mol) of 1-(2-tert-butylphenyloxy)-2-butanol and the amount of the same palladium catalyst was increased to 2.5 g to effect the reaction for 4 hours, to obtain 32 g of 1-(2-tert-butyl-5-methylcyclohexyloxy)-2-butanol (bp. 139° to 140° C./3.5 mm Hg) in a 63% yield.
