Procedure
The acid prepared in Example 38 (8.2 g, 21.6 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (150 ml) and stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 1 h at room temperature in the presence of 10% palladium on carbon catalyst (35% aqueous paste) and then filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness leaving a residue which was dissolved into dichloromethane and dried over sodium sulphate. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give 2.3 g (28%) of the title compound as a foam.
