To a solution of 4-iodo-2-methoxyphenol (90 g) in DMF (450 mL) were added K2CO3 (60 g) and 4-ethylbenzyl chloride (58 g) at RT. The reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 3 hr. Water (900 mL) was added to the reaction mixture. The precipitated solid was collected on a filter and dried under reduced pressure. The suspension of this solid in heptane (520 mL) was stirred at RT. The precipitated solid was collected on a filter and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (115 g, 87%).
