Reaction Steps
To a solution of 4-methylpyridine-2-carbonitrile (2.0 g) in THF (60 mL) was added 2.0 M LDA in heptane/THF/ethylbenzene (10.2 mL) at −78° C. The mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 2 hr. Allyl bromide (2.4 g) was added to the mixture at −78° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 2.5 hr and at RT for 12 hr. Water was added to the reaction mixture and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (Developing solvent: hexane/ethyl acetate=9/1) to give the title compound (0.34 g, 12%).
