A mixture of [(8R)-6-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-8-(3,5-difluorophenyl)-8-methyl-10-oxo-6,9-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-9-yl]acetic acid (4.41 g, 10.1 mmol, described in Intermediate 21) and conc. H2SO4 (3.0 mL) in MeOH (100 mL) was heated at reflux for 24 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to a volume of about 30 mL, poured into saturated aqueous NaHCO3 (150 mL), and extracted with EtOAc (2×200 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound. MS: m/z=353 (M+1).
