Trifluoroacetic acid (1 ml, 12.98 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of 2-[(1-methylethyl)oxy]-8-(methyloxy)-9-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-9H -purin-6-amine (568 mg, 1.848 mmol) in methanol (10 ml) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. More trifluoroacetic acid (0.2 ml) was added and the reaction mixture stirred ar room temperature for a further 1.5 hours and then evaporated in vacuo. The solid residue was triturated with ethyl acetate, collected by filtration, washed with ethyl acetate and dried in vacuo overnight to give the title compound as a white solid (405 mg).
