Reaction Steps

To a solution of 3-hydroxy-3,3-diphenyl-1-pyridin-4-yl-propan-1-one (115 mg) in methanol (4 ml) were added hydroxylamine hydrochloride (63 mg) and sodium acetate (75 mg). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 6 h. Water was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was dried using MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to dryness. The product was purified by chromatography (SiO2, cyclohexane/ethyl acetate 4:1 to 1:3) to give the title compound (60 mg) as a colorless solid, MS (ESI+): m/z=319.1 [M+H]+.
