Procedure
2,2,2-Trifluoroacetohydrazide (0.14 g, 1.0 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of ethyl 3-iodo-4-methylbenzimidate (preparation 51b, 0.30 g, 1.0 mmol) in methanol (3 mL) and the mixture was stirred and heated to 70° C. After 2 hours, the mixture was cooled and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (5:1 hexanes/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (0.10 g, 27%) as a white solid.
