To a solution of tert-butyl 4-{(Z)-[4-(methylamino)-2-oxo-1,3-thiazol-5(2H)-ylidene]methyl}piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.27 g) in tetrahydrofuran/methanol (6 mL/6 mL) was added 4M hydrogen chloride/ethyl acetate solution (5.85 mL), and the reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 hr. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was washed with ethyl acetate to give the title compound (1.02 g).
