tert-Butyl 4-formylpiperidine-1-carboxylate (7.6 g) and 4-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-2-one (4.98 g) were suspended in ethanol (200 mL), potassium tert-butoxide (4.80 g) was added, and the reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 4 hr. Acetic acid/water/ethyl acetate were added to the reaction mixture, and the organic layer was separated, washed with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) and washed with diethyl ether to give the title compound (7.8 g).
