Reaction Steps
A solution of (2S)-1-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}-5,5,5-trifluoro-pentan-2-amine (3.00 g, 11.06 mmol) and trifluoroacetaldehyde ethyl hemiacetal (1.6 g, 11.1 mmol) in benzene (20 mL) was refluxed for 2 hours during which time water was collected in a Dean-Stark trap. The solvent was removed in vacuo yielding crude (2S)-1-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}-5,5,5-trifluoro-N-[(1E)-2,2,2-trifluoroethylidene]pentan-2-amine.
