2-((2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl)-5-nitroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one (7.3 g, 0.024 mol) was stirred with palladium 10% wt. on calcium carbonate (1 g, 0.005 mol) in methanol (100 mL, 2 mol) under hydrogen (balloon) over 1 h at room temperature. The catalyst was filtered, the filtrate was concentrated to dryness, purified via flash chromatography (120 g of silica gel, 0-10% MeOH/CH2Cl2) to give a white solid.
