Procedure

Methyl pyrroline-2-carboxylate (2.265 g) was dissolved in 1 N NaOH(aq) (17.8 mL) and stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was lyophilized to give crude sodium pyrroline-2-carboxylate (3647-164) as a white powder. ESI-MS calculated for C5H7NO2 [MH]+: 114.1; observed: 114.2.
