Reaction Steps

To a solution of 1-i-propyl-3,7-dibromophenothiazinium bromide (200 mg, 0.42 mmol) in chloroform (10 mL) kept under argon, 1-methylpiperazine (290 mg, 2.9 mmol) was added (30 min) with vigorous stirring. The mixture was stirred for 3 h and after that extracted once with aqueous HBr (10 mL, 1% v/v) and twice with water. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), concentrated and dried under vacuum. Compound was purified by flash chromatography (solvent system: dichloromethane-methanol).
