A mixture of glycine tert-butyl ester (5.3 g, 40.4 mmol), TEA (5.6 mL, 40.4 mmol) and 5,6-dichloronicotinonitrile (Bionet GC-0755, 7.0 g, 40.4 mmol) was prepared and stirred at RT for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered to remove inorganic solids and filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue taken up with EtOAc (100 mL) and washed with water (2×100 mL). The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure. After purification by flash chromatography (silica, pet ether/EtOAc), the title compound was obtained as a white powder. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ 8.41 (1H, d), 8.15 (1H, d), 7.84 (1H, t), 4.00 (2H, m), 1.38 (9H, s).
