A stirred solution of 2-[6-cyano-3-(4-methoxy-benzenesulfonyl)-2-oxo-2,3-dihydrobenzoimidazol-1-yl]-butyric acid tert-butyl ester (34 mg, 0.07 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1 mL) was treated with trifluoroacetic acid (1 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, concentrated in vacuo and co-evaporated the solvent with toluene (3×) to afford 2-[6-cyano-3-(4-methoxy-benzenesulfonyl)-2-oxo-2,3-dihydrobenzoimidazol-1-yl]-butyric acid (29 mg, 99%) as a white solid.
