Into a 250 mL round bottom flask was added (3′-Chloro-2-fluoro-6-methoxy-biphenyl-3-yl)-methanol synthesized above (1.21 g, 4.54 mmol), dichloromethane (20 mL), PPh3 (1.19 g, 4.54 mmol), and the solution was cooled to 0° C. NBS (0.81 g, 4.54 mmol) was added and the reaction stirred for 2 hours at 0° C. The organics were washed with H2O and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography eluting with 8% ethyl acetate/hexanes to give 3-bromomethyl-3′-chloro-2-fluoro-6-methoxy-biphenyl (I-33, 956 mg, 64%) as an off-white solid.
