Procedure

Using the method of Example 5, 6-aminomethyl-2,4-bis(methylthio)pyrimidine from Example 1, part E or Example 8 was reacted with formic acid to provide 2,4bis(methylthio)-6-formylaminomethylpyrimidine as a light yellow solid. The structural assignment was confirmed by infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral analyses.
