9.63 mmol of n-butylmethylamine is dissolved in 6 ml of absolute CH2Cl2. In a moisture-free environment, 1.85 mmol of 1-bromo-10-decanesulfonyl chloride is now slowly added in drops to 2.5 ml of CH2Cl2 while being cooled with ice. Then, it is stirred for another five hours at room temperature. The mixture is mixed with 10 ml of water, stirred thoroughly for a short time and the organic phase is separated. The aqueous phase is extracted with ether, and the combined organic phases are then washed with saturated NaCl solution and water. After drying on MgSO4, the solvent is removed in a rotary evaporator.
