Methyl trans-4-{[N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-N-(4-tert-buylcyclohexyl)amino]methyl}benzoylaminopropanoate (19.5 g, 41.1 mmol) was dissolved in a mixture of TFA (200 mL) and dichloromethane (200 mL), while cooling on an ice bath. The ice bath was removed and the mixture allowed to stir at room temperature for 30 min. Solvent was removed by rotary evaporation, and the crystalline residue recrystallized from ethyl acetate/heptane. Yield: 14.8 g (74%).
