Reaction Steps
A mixture of intermediate (15) (0.06 mol) in NH3/CH3OH (400 ml) was hydrogenated at 20° C. with Raney Nickel (3 g) as a catalyst. After uptake of hydrogen (2 equivalents), the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 14.6 g of 1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-5-methyl-2H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole-2-propanamine (intermediate 16).
