0.09 g (0.0002 mol) (R)-1-[6-[(R)-2-ethyloxycarbonyl-2,5-dihydropyrrole-1-yl]-6-oxo-hexanoyl]-2,5-dihydropyrrole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester were stirred with aqueous HCl at 50° C. for 3 hours. The solvent was evaporated and the residue dissolved in water and lyophilized to yield 0.08 g (97%) (R)-1-[6-[(R)-2-carboxy-2,5-dihydropyrrole-1-yl]-6-oxo-hexanoyl]-2,5-dihydropyrrole-2-carboxylic acid as light yellow foam. ISP-MS: 335 (M−H)−.
