Procedure
2-Methoxy-5-hydroxymethyltetrahydropyran (0.91 g) was dissolved in pyridine (10 ml), and the solution cooled to 5° C. Acetic anhydride (3.15 ml) was added thereto, and the mixture stirred at the same temperature For 1 hour, and then at room temperature overnight. After removing pyridine by evaporation under reduced pressure, the residue was purified on a silica gel column (eluent: n-hexane/ethyl acetate=1/2) to obtain the desired product (0.93 g, 80.0%) as pale yellow oil.
