To a solution of 2-(4'-amino-3'-iodophenyl) benzothiazole (DF129) (0.15 g, 0.426 mmol) in benzene (15 ml) was added dropwise chloroacetyl chloride (0.18 g) at room temperature. A yellow precipitate was formed and the resulting mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 30 minutes, and then cooled in an ice-bath. The solid was filtered off, washed with cold benzene and petroleum ether, and dried to give a yellow powder (0.13 g, 71.2%), m.p. 192.1-193.8° C.
