Procedure

75 ml of nitrobenzene are cooled in an ice bath and treated in succession with 17.3 g of aluminium chloride and 4-bromobenzoyl chloride in 25 ml of nitrobenzene at a maximum 6° C. The mixture is stirred for 10 min., whereupon 15.7 g of 2,5-difluoroanisole are added in such a manner that the temperature does not exceed 6° C. The solution is left to warm to room temperature overnight, then poured on to ice-water and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is washed with water and 10% sodium chloride solution, dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated. After crystallization from cyclohexane there are obtained 28.4 g of (4-bromo-phenyl)-(2,5-difluoro-4-methoxy-phenyl)-methanone.
