Reaction Steps

To a solution of the compound prepared in Example 10 (1.10 g, 2.84 mmol) in EtOAc (225 ml) was added Pd(OH)2 (0.50 g, 0.47 mmol). The flask was then flushed with H2. After 1 day, the reaction was purged with N2 and filtered. The catalyst was washed with hot EtOH (2×). The combined filtrates were concentrated under reduced pressure; to yield 810 mg of a tan solid (95%). 1H-NMR (CDCl3) 1.60 (s, 9H), 2.30 (s, 3H), 2.74 (s, 3H), 5.29 (s, 2H), 7.30-7.50 (m, 5H). 1.56 (s, 9H), 2.25 (s, 3H), 2.67 (s, 3H), 5.60 (brs, 2H) 11.40 (brs, 1H).
