Procedure

A portion (0.53 g) of the compound obtained in Example 250 was dissolved in anhydrous toluene (100 ml) and to the solution was added magnesium bromide etherate (5.54 g). The mixture was heated to reflux for 4 hours and allowed to cool. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The organic layers were combined, washed with saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. Then, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to yield 0.55 g of the titled compound as a crude yellow solid. The compound was used in the subsequent reaction without further purification.
