1,2-Bis(methylsulfonyl)-1-(2-chloroethyl)-2-[(3-methoxy-4-nitrobenzyloxy)carbonyl]hydrazine (compound 13d) was prepared from 3-methoxy-4-nitrobenzyl alcohol using a procedure similar to that described for compound 13a. The Mp was determined to be about 56-57° C., and the yield was about 29.4% by weight after recrystallization from ethanol. 1H NMR (acetone d6): δ 7.8, 7.5 and 7.2 (3H, 2d, s, aromatic H), 5.8 (2H, d, ArCH2), 3.6-4.1 (4H, m, CH2CH2Cl), 4.0 (3H, S, OCH3), 3.6 and 3.3 (6H, 2s, 2 CH3SO2).
