1,2-Bis(methylsulfonyl)-1-(2-chloroethyl)-2-[(5-methyl-2-nitrobenzyloxy)carbonyl]hydrazine (compound 13e) was prepared from 5-methyl-2-nitrobenzyl alcohol using a procedure similar to that described for compound 13a. The Mp was found to be 112-113° C., and the yield was about 24.3% by weight after recrystallization from ethanol. 1H NMR (acetone-d6): δ 8.1, 7.8 and 7.4 (3H, 2d, s, aromatic H), 5.8 (2H, d, ArCH2), 3.6-4.1 (4H, m, CH2CH2Cl), 3.6 and 3.3 (6H, 2s, 2 CH3SO2), 2.5 (3H, s, ArCH3).
