Procedure

18.35g (0.081mol) of 4-pentylbromobenzene was dissolved in 30ml of benzene and the solution was stirred at room temperature in a stream of nitrogen. To the resulting solution was added drop-wise 50ml (0.081mol) of hexane solution including 15% butyllithium for 30 minutes and the solution was stirred for 2 hours. Then the produced precipitate gathered by the filtration in a stream of nitrogen was dried under reduced pressure to yield 9.2g of 4-pentylphenyllithium.
