To a solution of 10.73 g of 3-tetradecylphenol in 30 ml of pyridine was added 8.02 g of hexanoic anyhydride. The mixture was stirred 24 hours, then diluted with chloroform, washed with water, then saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, dried and the solvent evaporated, giving 14.01 g of the desired compound.
