PROCEDURE

To a solution of Step 2 intermediate (0.300 g, 1.027 mmol) in toluene (10 ml) was added Pd[(C6H5)3P]4 [tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0)] (0.048 g. 0.042 mmol) and a solution of Na2CO3 (0.653 g, 6.162 mmol) in water (4 ml). A solution of 3,5-difluorophenylboronic acid (6.5 g, 44.235 mmol) in ethanol (6 ml) was added to the reaction mixture and it was refluxed for 1.5 h. After completion of the reaction mixture, the solvent was concentrated in vacuo, the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate (200 ml) and water (50 ml). The organic layer was washed with brine (50 ml) and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 to afford a crude product which was purified by silica gel column chromatography using 10% ethyl acetate in chloroform to give 280 mg of the product as an off-white solid; 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 2.19 (s, 3H), 7.53 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 3H), 7.88 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H) 8.02 (d, J=4.8 Hz, 1H); ESI-MS (m/z) 276.31 (M−H)−.
