A solution of methyl(3S,4R)-4-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-1-[2-(5,7-difluoro-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)ethyl]piperidine-3-carboxylate (Intermediate 35) (595 mg, 1.19 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was hydrogenated over palladium on carbon (10%, wet) at normal pressure and room temperature for 30 minutes. It was filtered through a 0.45 μm membrane, washed with methanol and the wash and filtrate were concentrated under reduced pressure to give 395 mg (91%) of the product as a colorless hard foam.
