Procedure
After adding 50 ml of benzene and 20 ml of acetic acid anhydride to 3.0 g of 2-(6,7-diethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-isoquinolinylidene)-2-[2-hydroxy-3-(4-morpholinyl)propyl]mercaptoacetonitrile, the reaction mixture is refluxed for 1 hour, then evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure. After addition of ether, the residue crystallizes out to give the named product in a yield of 2.47 g, m.p.: 133° C. (from isopropanol).
