Procedure
Bromine (15.9 g, 5.15 ml, 0.1 mol) was added dropwise to 2-(4-chlorophenyl) thiazol-4-yl acetic acid (24 g, 0.096 mol) suspended in glacial acetic acid (200 ml) and the resulting mixture was heated at 60°-70° C. for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0° C. (ice bath) and the solid which separated was filtered and washed with CHCl3. The residue was then washed with cold ethanol to afford the desired product (24 g, 75%)
