Procedure
903 g of the bromine were slowly added dropwise to a mixture of 757 g (5.58 mol) of 3,3-bisfluoromethyl-2-butanone and 4.5 liters of methylene chloride at 20° to 30° C., while cooling and stirring. The yellowish solution was subsequently stirred for a further hour at 20° C. After distilling off the solvent, the residue was distilled in vacuo. 1,030 g (86% of theory) of 3,3-bisfluoromethyl-1-bromo-butan-2-one of boiling point 49°-53° C./0.15 mm Hg were obtained. ##STR73##
