Procedure
A solution of 1.5 g (3.3 mmoles) of 1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-7-(3-trifluoroacetamidomethyl-3-methyl-1-azetidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid (example 24), 15 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide and 6 ml of ethanol are heated under reflux for 3 hours, and evaporated under vacuum. Acetic acid is added, and the product filtered and washed with water. 0.88 g (74%) of 1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(3-aminomethyl-3-methyl-1-azetidinyl)-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid are obtained, melting at 268°-70° C.
