A solution of 1.05 g (2.38 mmoles) of 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-7-(3-trifluoroacetamidomethyl)-3-methyl-1-azetidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid (Example 30), in 15 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide and 6 ml of ethanol is heated to reflux for 3 hours, and evaporated under vacuum. Acetic acid is added, the product is filtered and washed with water, and 0.7 g (85%) of 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(3-aminomethyl-3-methyl-1-azetidinyl)-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid, melting at 274°-9° C., are obtained.
