Procedure

A solution of 1.1 g (2.1 mmoles) of 1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-6,8-difluoro-7-(3-methyl-3-trifluoroacetamido-1-azetidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid (example 34), 4 ml of 10% sodium hydroxide, 5 ml of ethanol and 25 ml of water is heated under reflux for 3 hours. It is cooled, filtered, acetic acid is added and the product filtered and washed with water and cold ethanol. 0.2 g (22%) of 1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-6,8-difluoro-7-(3-amino-3-methyl-1-azetidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid are obtained, melting at 185°-6° C.
