Reaction Steps

Into a photoreaction flask having a capacity of 1 l, 20.0 g (60 mmol) of methyl 3-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)oxy]-6-(N,N-dimethylamino)picolinate and 1,300 ml of chloroform were charged and irradiated by a 400 W high pressure mercury lamp for 24 hours. Chloroform was distilled off under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate=6:1 to 3:7) to obtain the desired product.
