Using the procedure described in Example 1, (3RS,4SR)-3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-4-[3-(naphth-2-ylmethoxy)phenyl]tetrahydropyran [Example 7, Compound No. 3] was reacted with methyl iodide to give (3RS,4SR)-3,4-dimethoxy-4-[3-(naphth-2ylmethoxy)phenyl]tetrahydropyran (90%), m.p. 131°-133° C.
